How long is a preauthorization "open ticket" valid for?

I'm using the preauthorization and open ticket option to hold a credit card for deposit. How long is this preauth good for? Or is there any other better way to hold a deposit without charging and paying the fees?

@emilychuilac  If I remember correctly, the preauth cards are only good for 3 hours from first order. I don't think it'd be a good way for deposits.

You can create deposits in invoices, I don't believe that needs an upgrade to Invoices Plus. Would that work for your business flow?
