How do I transfer gift card balances from an old square site to a new one?

I have a client who had a previous website built in square that has outstanding gift card balances that she wants to be transferred to her new store.

I don't think you can transfer gift card balances. You can issue a new gift card and clear the old balance.

I can be wrong though
