How do I connect the Contactless and Chip reader with my iPhone XR?

Have 4 green lights to show reader is fully charged ..    Iphone Xr shows it has paired with reader

I hold the reader button down in the settings menu - but it shows the reader is "Not connected"    Then the reader gives me 4 white - then 4 red lights.     Why is this not connected ???

@Sclancy0903 Really sorry for the frustration! It sounds like you might be holding the button on the reader for too long: if you're seeing four red lights that means the reader has failed to pair.

To put your reader into pairing mode, press the button for 3-10 seconds. As soon as you see four orange lights remove your finger from the button. If you see the red lights again, try pairing the reader again but hold the button down for a shorter time.
