How do I add a service fee to pass on the credit card fee to the client?

I am a small business and only take in person payments. I would like to charge the credit card fee back to the client, how do I set up adding fees to the amount at the register? do I need to charge tax on this? I am in Canada

Hi @aleatha, we appreciate your question. I see this is your first post, welcome to the Square Community!

At this time, Square does not support surcharging functionality. The screenshot below from our FAQ highlights a bit more information on this:

You are able to set up service charge for your customers though, although this function should be used in place of surcharging. With a service charge, this fee covers additional costs outside of the initial items being sold, such as a delivery or bagging fee. Service charges can be either a single flat fee or a percentage on the sales amount. To learn more about adding service charges, feel free to refer here.

I hope this information helps a bit. Please reach out if you have any other questions or concerns!
