How can I set up my barcode scanner, create barcodes, and print labels?

I am a small scale potter, selling mainly at markets and using the Square card reader.

I recently bought a Zebra LS2208 barcode reader from Square with a view to barcoding my stock to simplify sales and help me gather information.

I have an Android phone withe the appropriate operating system and connecting equipment and that all seesm to work.

What I don't understand is what barcode format I need to use to have the Square app pick up the information and how to create those barcodes.

I appreciate that I am out of my depth here but I wonder if anyone can help me?

Hi @ghy  (Greg)!

Itโ€™s great to hear that youโ€™re diving into barcoding your pottery sales! ๐Ÿ˜Š

To get your Zebra LS2208 barcode scanner working with Square, you'll want to use either GTIN, UPC, or EAN formats for your barcodes.

When creating or editing an item in your Square Point of Sale app, you can scroll down to the "Barcode" section to manually enter the GTIN, UPC, or EAN in the provided field, and donโ€™t forget to select "Save" when youโ€™re finished. However, the fastest option is to create an item by scanning the barcode directly with the Square for Retail app. For detailed steps on how to set this up, check out our online guide

Square also allows you to print labels through the Square for Retail Plus plan. Check out this page for more details on that. If you prefer to stick with the Square Point of Sale software, you can use third-party online barcode generators to create and print your labels. Just input the numbers you want to encode (like your product SKU) and choose the GTIN, UPC, or EAN format.

If these terms are a bit new to you, donโ€™t worry! Weโ€™ve included explanations on how they can help you track and manage your items in our linked resources above.

Once your barcodes are printed, simply scan them with your Zebra reader, and Square will pick up the information automatically!

Everyone starts somewhere, and it sounds like youโ€™re on the right path! If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out. Happy selling! ๐ŸŽ‰
