How do I cancel a payment link that was sent out from my cash tender screen from my POS?
Scenario: I take an order from a customer not in the store. Ring it up on the POS system and then cash out as normal, using the Send Payment Link Option to the customer. My understanding is that this payment link is a one time only payment link and will be valid until customer uses the link to pay. The Customer does use link and after a couple of days I just want to cancel the link. I can't find how to do that for Payment Links generated during the cash out process.
Got it, thanks for confirming @drenn!
I've tested this on my own account, and it seems there isn't a way to cancel these links because they're designed to be sent as a one-time use. So, they won't be stored on your Payment Links page. However, once a customer pays via the link, you'll be able to locate the payment through your Transactions page.
When you generate your link, it prompts you to copy the link and share it with your customer. Do you remember how you originally sent it to your customer?
Hey @drenn,
When setting up a payment link, you have the option to specify the frequency at which customers can use the link.
Here's a screenshot for reference:
If you need to cancel existing payment links, you can do so directly from your Square Dashboard>Click Payment Link>Select Delete.
Here's a screenshot illustrating the process:
I hope this information helps. Let me know if you have any other questions or need further assistance.
That’s not the Type of Payment Link I did this time around …. From the cash out screen I sent a payment link to the customer. This wasn’t a per item one.

In this case I copied the link and sent it to the customer, so I know what the link is and can also click on the link myself and see that it's still active. On a side note, I've previously used the Text option for other payment collection and there is zero visibility of those links, until the customer pays of course... at least with the copy and paste to the customer I can hopefully reuse the link.
The problem I'm running into, that I'm trying to avoid, is double selling an item that I can't get another copy of. I've sent the customer a couple of follow up messages, that I can see they have read, but they aren't responding to. I have automations running where once I add the item to my inventory it will go to online marketplaces, so instead of doing the traditional Item Payment Link, I used the Payment Link through the Cash Out Screen to get around selling an item that has zero inventory.
Of course now I want to add this item to my inventory so it will go to the online sites, but I'd like to be able to delete the Payment Link generated on cash out screen - I'm trying to avoid Murphy's Law from kicking in and having it go to the online marketplaces, selling there, then having the original customer finally decide to click the link and pay and having to do a refund to someone. It looks like that is my only solution, and it's not the end of the world to do a refund.
We really need to have visibility of those payment links sent from the cash out screen though, at first I checked online assuming I could see it and cancel it from there. When I couldn't find it, I thought maybe it was device specific , so the next day in the store I checked and could only see a list of all the Item Payment Links I've made.
Most likely the original customer isn't going to use the link, but I also don't like the idea of it floating out there for it to potentially be used in the future .. if anything it would be nice if the Payment Links from the Cash Out screen had a time limit, I'd rather re-send it through the Cash Out screen again then have it hanging out until its used. I've used this workaround before, but of course it only takes one person to create a problem.
