Hi Square team,
I processed(inserted the chip card) $30.06 on the ''Square contactless terminal, it's called ''Square Reader for contactless and chip'' but I still loosed the dispute. Because Squre say the chip card was not processed on a chip-capable terminal. I am so confused. someone can explain it? thank you
Tom
Hi @tom289,
Welcome to The Seller Community! Happy to help.
Now that most cards have chips on them, it is your responsibility as the merchant to have to have hardware to accept those payments.
Now, if you’re not set up with an EMV reader to process chip cards, the bank isn’t responsible. The responsibility to cover costs from certain types of chip card-related fraud has shifted to the merchant.
If you swiped a chip card in that little magstrip that inserts into your phone, instead of insert the card in the contactless and chip reader, then yes you would be liable in an event of a chargeback.
Here is more information on the new liability shift.
I hope that helped clear up some confusion!
Hi MAYAP,
thanks for your info! as I said before, I have inserted the chip card on the Square EMV card reader not swiped it. and the receipt is cleared showing the process TYP is CHIP.
Hi @tom289,
I am sorry that is really weird! I have never seen that before.
I would reach back out to our Dispute Team and again, as I am not able to discuss account specific information through this forum.
If you have further questions about this inquiry please reach out at 1-855-700-6000 squ.re/contactsqsupport
Thank you!
