Enter/calculate pickup time on ticket

Wanting to know how we can either enter or have the system calculated a pickup time on tickets, just like they do automatically on Square online orders.

Our orders/tickets automatically print to the KDS in our kitchen. For online orders, they drop in before the order needs to be prepped, based on the prep time (i.e. 30 minutes before it needs to be sent out). For phone or walk-in orders, we enter the orders as tickets into the POS. The tickets are printed right away, even if it's now 2pm and the customer wants to pick it up at 6pm.

There are two key impacts of this:

1. The kitchen gets the order in advance and it's a big distraction. There's also a chance they'll miss it later, or they'll waste time continuing to check back to ensue they don't miss it

2. Our KDS average wait time reports are blown out

Further, now we enter the "expected time" into the Notes section on tickets which means someone needs to quickly calculate. (It's not hard, but it's another thing to think about on a busy night).

Hey @rachel1990,

Thanks for getting in touch.

At the moment the way dining options work in the Point of Sale app unfortunately isn't the same as orders placed via a Square Online site. While your online orders do display in the POS app for reference and for ticket/receipt printing for your kitchen, transactions processed via Point of Sale don't have the ability to designate scheduled times.

For now you could continue with the workarounds you've been using, however in the long run it may be worth setting the expectation with customers that scheduled orders can only be placed online, while phone orders take place in a more traditional manner - ie the customer calls and places and order, then is given an expected time for delivery/pickup based on how quickly you're able to turn around the order at the time it's placed.

Your use case certainly shows a scenario where this would be very handy though! While I'm not sure if this functionality is something that's in the development pipeline, I will pass your feedback on the the Point of Sale team as an example of how this functionality would be very useful within the app!
