Email collection issues

How do I actually collect customer emails with consent to use them for marketing other than as a pop up on the website?

All I want is: 

- a section on the bottom of main website pages saying ‘Stay In Touch: sign up to our newsletters for the latest news and discounts’

- a link to share

 

All I can find is

- a pop up option that I can’t embed into any pages

- the ‘collect email addresses tool’ page in marketing, which goes to a ‘sign up to the loyalty program’ rather than an email list landing page. 

what should I be doing instead to collect emails?

There are a couple of ways to collect email address with consent for marketing purposes.

 

Enable Opt in Email Marketing at Checkout

 

To do so, log in to your Square Online Overview page:

  1. Go to Settings or Shared Settings
  2. Click on Checkout
  3. Scroll down to Customer Inputs and click Edit
  4. Tick the box to allow customers to opt in 
  5. Save

 

Embed the email collection link in a button on your website 

While customers can choose to subscribe to Loyalty instead of signing up for marketing emails, they should be prompted to add an email address when clicking on the link.

When adding their email addresses, they will be added to your Customer Directory and the Marketing email status marked as Subscribed.

You can follow the steps in this post if you'd like to add this link to a button in a section of your website.

Thanks. I appreciate the response but it’s not really what I wanted to hear. I don’t want to offer the loyalty program to people at this point. I want a landing page/section just to collect emails for our mailing list. 

i already have the loyalty program set up at checkout where it makes sense for people making a purchase to sign up. But I want to collect emails for people who are interested and want to hear from us on specific things but aren’t at the point of making a purchase yet. 

It sounds like my options are to either use another mailing list program altogether (not ideal because it won’t be as easy to track customer behaviour and responses) or to create a form on my website to collect emails and manually add them to the list (not ideal because it will be a waste of time and has more potential for errors)

 

unless you know of any other workarounds for it?

If you add a Contact Us form on your website, please note that the Opt-in box is unfortunately not GDPR-compliant @AnnaBYLY . If you upload the list of email addresses collected through this form to your Customer Directory, you will need to seek consent from your customers to "subscribe" them to Marketing emails. 

 

The only way to collect email addresses automatically on your Square Online website at the moment, would be to use the link you can obtain on Dashboard > Marketing > Settings. It makes sense that you do not want to offer the Loyalty Program to customers who are only visiting your site, and I think I might have not explained it properly in my previous post - my apologies. This link will prompt your customer to enter their email address to join Square Marketing, not Loyalty. 

If you wish to use the link, I recommend creating a section "Button" and add the email collection link to the button. Here's a (very) basic example I created on my website:

You can set up the button to have the link will open in a new tab, so your customers can easily go back to your website once they sign up. I detailed the steps to another seller on this thread.
