Square requires an active Internet connection to process payments. For the Square Register, this can be either a Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection. You can also process payments with Offline Mode if you find yourself in a situation where you're unable to connect to Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi is not available in your environment. Just be aware that offline payments are processed automatically when you reconnect your device to the internet and may be declined if not processed within 24 hours.
