I have a Reader Gen 1st V2 and a Vers 3. Do they still work with the latest app?
When I try to add the bluetooth its says it needs an app, yet I do have the latest Android Galaxy G22 Ultra 5G app installed.
Somehow the app is using my phone, not the readers.
I very confused.
Please help
Hi @starlite,
1st Generation readers are still compatible with the Square Point of Sale app on supported devices, although they're no longer available for purchase through the Square Shop.
As a quick recap, to pair your reader, make sure to connect it via Bluetooth within the Square app - not your device’s Bluetooth settings. If you've previously paired it directly through your device, follow these steps to "Forget" the device:
1. Open your device’s Bluetooth settings.
2. On Android, select your Square Reader and tap Unpair.
Afterward, open the Square app to pair your reader:
1. Tap More on the navigation bar.
2. Go to Settings > Hardware > Square Readers.
3. Tap Connect a Reader and follow the prompts.
It sounds like Tap to Pay might be enabled on your device, allowing customers to make payments by tapping their phone to your device. You can check and disable Tap to Pay at any time in your app if you'd prefer to continue using your Square Reader instead.
1. From the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen, tap ≡ More.
2. Tap Settings, then tap Hardware.
3. Choose Tap to Pay by Android > toggle on to enable.
4. Toggle off Tap to Pay by Android to disable at any time.
I hope this helps! Should you run into any other issues, please don't hesitate to reach back out!
