I'm trying to start collecting email addresses of customers who would like to subscribe to our communications. I don't have Square Marketing (yet), so am initially trying all the free options to achieve this.
- I have set up the checkout to include the 'opt-in' checkbox.
- I have set up a popup to opt-in to emails
- I have set up the 'Stay in the loop' subscriber box provided in the footer of the online website.
Question 1:
However, when i tested the subscription box in the footer, the email address was added to the Customer Database but in the customer's profile, the Marketing section was marked as "nonsubscribed", so legally i can't send comms to this person. The marketing section is also disabled (no toggle) so i can't manually toggle this customer to 'subscribed'.
I would have thought that entering your email into the subscriber box in the footer equates to providing consent? Is this not the case?
Question 2: When I tested adding an email via the popup, the customer database was updated, but again the customer is listed as 'nonsubscribed' as above.
