Custom Tipping Percentages

Hello,

 

We have debated allowing credit card tipping for some time as we didn’t want customers to feel obligated. After much debate, and external feedback, we opted to allow tipping. My question here is, would it be possible to have custom tipping percentages on the smart tipping? I like the idea of smart amounts on smaller transactions, but am very uncomfortable prompting customers for a 25% tip on $100 in groceries (we’re a farmstand). It seems like an easy lift as Square already allows custom percentages without smart tipping.

Hi there, @delkancott.  Currently, this is not possible with Square.  I’d usually recommend that you submit a feature request on the Ideate Board, but here’s the thing.  You are not the first person to ask for this.  I doubt you will be the last.  But in my over 10 years of being a Square seller, this has not changed.  I’m old enough (a Boomer) to understand that when tech companies “respond” with silence, that the answer is “not going to happen.”  That’s my take, anyway.  

 

Anyway, I’ll agree that 25% seems excessive you your situation.  You can change the percentages, however, which is what I did for my walk-up window ice cream shop.  I use 10/15/20%.  Anyway, it’s not intuitive when you use smart tipping.  First you’ll need to set it up like you are using percentages only, so you can set the percentages and save that.  Then, you’ll go back and enable smart tipping.  This will now use the percentages you previously set up instead of Square’s defaults of 15/20/25.
