Credit Card

On our system we are sometimes able to able to tap/dip credit cards, but other days we can only manually enter credit card numbers.  Why?

One day the card reader was working and the printer not working.  When I finally got the printer connected, the CC reader stopped working?  Why?

Since one day Card reader Worked then the printer did not work.... now printer works.   I am guessing something happened when troubleshooting or reconnecting the printer to Square.  My suggestion is to see if you have the reader connected to your Square device.  This could be the problem.  I would go through the Trouble shooting of the reader and basically forget the reader then reinstall it through your Square app.   This normally fixes most issues that can happen if an update caused this issue.

But again we are not sure which system or how your card reader is connected.  Is card reader bluetooth or USB?   What device are you using to process a sale?   Cell or Tablet?  Android or Apple Device?  Stand or Register?

Probably there's no way to say as to why .....

 

There can be multiple reasons:

 

Not knowing what your setup is would be helpful - for example, we use an iPad with Square's POS App, Square Stand with a USB Hub, Receipt Printer and Contactless Chip Reader.

 

So guessing here:  We don't know the age of your setup nor if all of your hardware is compatible according to Square's hardware list - is the App you're using the latest version, is your smart device using the latest operating system, does your Square hardware have the latest updates (firmware), do you have a strong internet connection, are you using any USB extension cables.   Yep, things can get frustrating at times so one has to look at the entire setup.  Also understand that the volunteer members here are not the same as Tech or Customer Support but, there is quite a bit of hands-on experience using Square's Hardware and Apps.  Hopefully with more info, someone here may be able to offer some advice.
