Configuring Cash Draw

Hi Team,

We are transitioning back into a world where cash is accepted.  I have my cash drawer connected to my compatible receipt printer but unfortunately there is no option to open cash drawer in the settings.  Am i missing something or is it no longer available.

Under the use this printer for:

Receipts

In-person order tickets

Online order tickets

Order ticket stubs

Void tickets

There is a Cash draw section but it looks like it is only for USB type cash drawers.

I have tested opening the drawer using the printer's app and it works just can't seem to configure it via Square.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Cheers

Hey @MrHenderson,

Thanks for getting in touch and sorry to hear you're having trouble with your printer!

To start with, what make and model is it, and how have you currently got it connected to the Square POS app (eg Wifi/ethernet/USB/Bluetooth)?

Also, what device are you trying to connect it to (eg iPad, iPhone, Android tablet).

I'll do my best to advise, otherwise you can also call our support team direct on 1800 760 137. Lines are open Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm Melbourne time.

Hi Seamus,

So sorry should have put more detail in.

We are using an iPad

The printer is a Star MC-Print 3 (MCP31L) it is connect via ethernet and the cash drawer is plugged into the RJ-11 port.

I have run a test using the StarPrn IOS app and the hardware all talks and works well in testing (i.e drawer opens from the IOS app).  I just cannot get Square to open the drawer.

Hey @MrHenderson,

This sounds really odd - if you were to do a $1 cash test transaction, does the draw pop open? The draw should automatically pop open when you process cash sales (as opposed to card and other payment types).

You could look at things like making sure the app is up to date, but to be honest it may be beneficial for you to call our support team for further help with this one if you can't get it to pop open when doing cash sales. They'll be able to take a better look into your operating environment on the back end. You call support on 1800 760 137 (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm Melbourne time), let me know how you go!
