Charged 2.5% instead of 1.75%

£1100 was charged to a customer in their presence via your app and for this we should be charged 1.75% but instead have been charged the ‘customer not present’ 2.5%?

We went on the app, inputted the amount £1100 and clicked ‘manual card entry’ and passed the app to the customer to fill.

Why have we been charged 2.5% and only £1072.50 has been deposited in our bank instead of £1080.75 which is 1.75%?

Thanks

Hey @SWWUK this is the standard charge for a keyed entry with Square:

Full document here but also copied the relevant part below.

Square fees by payment type

With the Square Point of Sale app, you’ll pay the following per-transaction fees:

  • 1.75% for each contactless, chip and PIN, or swiped card-present transaction.

  • 2.5% for payments manually keyed-in to the Square Point of Sale app, recurring payments facilitated via Online Checkout links, Square Invoices and Virtual Terminal.

  • 1.4% + 25p for UK cards and 2.5% + 25p for non-UK cards for our online payment products, including Square eCommerce API, Square Online, Online Checkout, subscription payments and purchases of digital gift cards.

Welcome to the Community, @SWWUK !

As @Sam_400º mentioned, 2.5% would be the standard for manually keyed cards. All manual entries are considered a "customer not present" transaction since the card was not physically swiped or tapped and we have no other way to confirm if the customer was present during the transaction.
