Charge service fee

I would like to change my account to automatically charge a service or per-use fee per transaction. How can I do that?

Hi @PaceBand.  What kinds of transactions do you have?

  1. POS transactions for in-person sales?
  2. Square Invoices?
  3. Square Online Store?
  4. Subscriptions?
  5. Appointments?
  6. Other?

Each has its own way of doing automatic service charges, and a couple don’t allow automatic service charges at all.  It will help for you to narrow it down for the best answer.

I have the same issue. I issue invoices online.  I followed the directions to the lettter and received this error message:

It appears you are trying to add a credit card surcharge. Due to changes in payment network fules, Square cannot support credit card surcrging  at this time. More inforamtion on our Service Charge feature can be found here.

When I click on the hyperlink in "here" I get the same instructions I followed before & get the same error message.

@HANDETROIT Question.  ARE you trying to surcharge card transactions in order to try to recoup the Square processing fee?  If so, Square made an announcement months ago stating that for the foreseeable future this practice would be disallowed.  Square (and other processors like Clover) were notified by Visa/MC that some cards were being surcharged in violation of their terms of service.  So, for now, Square has stopped any service charges that look like they might be credit card surcharging.  As I understand it, Square is talking with the card issuers to determine how they can allow surcharging that is in compliance with the rules.

If you are NOT trying to surcharge to recoup processing fees, can you send a screen shot of the service charge you are trying to setup?  That would help in assisting you.

Also, when you post the screen shots, please post the hyperlink that pressing “here” took you to.

Thanks,
