I just purchased the Square Terminal and I need a cash drawer that works with it. The Square cash drawer at $299 is a bit pricey in my opinion, so are any of you using a different one that works well?
@prandrews68 This is kind of a tricky proposition. The USB driven cash drawers are a little different animal. Most cash drawers are driven by the receipt printer and not the pos directly. You can probably find a cheaper usb cash drawer somewhere else, but compatibility could be an issue. Make sure they have a return policy. You can use a usb printer with the terminal and do a regular cash drawer, but I don't think it will be cheaper.
Thanks. Maybe just a manual cash drawer is the way to go, as I really don't need receipts.
You can still do receipts from the terminal.
The cheapest route would be the USB Cash Drawer and the USB Hub needed for the Terminal. Or you could get a cash drawer that has a key to open and is not controlled by the Square system at all. That is what I do when I go to local events. Now those types start at $40 at Walmart and amazon. Square would still track the amount that should be in the drawer just not automatically open it for a cash transaction. Not sure what type of setup you have for selling your items.
I use a cash drawer with a key, like $40 on Amazon. No need for the terminal to pop it open for $250+.
