Can’t use same card with split payment

So I’m using Square in Canada. I recently found out that you can’t use the chip part of Square for debit...which makes me have to split the payment because you can only use tap under $100. But when I do split payments it doesn’t allow my clients to use the same card....why?

Hey @Carp - The $100 payment limit for Interac cards is a security measure designed to protect your customers in case their cards are lost or stolen. As a result, we ask that you don’t use Split Tender to break up a transaction over a single card to avoid the $100 limit.

If you must split a transaction, we recommend asking the customer to put the remaining balance on a different card.

That doesn’t make sense as you can do it for credit card. That’s inconvenient and just seems like it’s capped because interact is a lower fee per use.

@Carp, Interac Flash tap debit is a standard that was developed by the banking industry and the limits are set forth by them, not Square.  the $100 transaction limit is a safeguard.  there isn't a way to use the same card twice, and most have a $200 daily flash limit too.
