Can i take a payment over the phone or doi need special hardware or a special reader to input the card info?

Hi Badhorsee,

At least two options I believe - basically you're doing a Card Not Present transaction - note, when doing a manual input, the fees are slightly higher -3.5% + 15¢per typed-in transaction.

Option 1 - you can use Virtual Terminal through your laptop or desktop via your Square Account - see this link for starters.  It's pretty straight forward - you'll need the credit card details, number, name, security code and customer's billing Zip Code.

Option 2 - if you have a smart phone or tablet with the Square POS app loaded, you can also manually the same transaction details. 

1. Key in the amount or add the items that the customer is purchasing
2. Hit ‘Charge’ and select ‘Manual card entry’
3. Key in the customer’s card details and hit ‘Charge’
