Best way to set up tip-only transactions?

As musicians we use square payments when booked on a gig. Some appearances, however, are busking only, as in we get no fee and only get by on tips.

I've already enabled tipping on Standard Mode in our Square profile... but since these are  customers that don't purchase anything, what is the best way to set up a tip-only transaction? I know how to generate a QR code for payment; I'd just like them to be able to scan the QR code and enter the amount they'd like to tip, or provide them with a menu.

I'm also unsure that I want to ask clients that hire us for a gig to tip on top of the agreed-upon rate, so ideally I'd have two options... one that is for hired gigs where we've agreed on a rate that would not show tipping options, and a second one that is tip-only or "choose your own amount."

What is the best way to set this up on Square?

We have a variable priced item called “Tip”. Enable checkout link. Create QR code.
it may mess up your reporting because it’s an item called tip, but that’s all I can think of.
You can also do the same but make the item a cent or dollar and allow them to tip.
