We just bought a Register to replace our Stand so that we can use Square's new (beta) support for SNAP EBT payments. Square Support confirms that everything is set up properly. Our carts correctly identify items that are SNAP eligible or not.
When we tap Charge, we don't see EBT as a payment option. Should we? Or does the system automatically recognize an EBT card as such and process things accordingly?
The reason I ask is that Square documentation suggests that EBT should be listed as a payment option. From https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/8628-accept-ebt-snap-payments > Take an EBT SNAP Payment > Handle SNAP-eligible and non-eligible items together (split tender sale):
3. Select EBT SNAP as the first payment method....
So, should I see EBT as a payment option, or is it simply that the documentation is misleading?
If anyone has successfully used this new feature, please enlighten me.
(This feature came out just as we received SNAP approval, so we are brand new to SNAP. I expect to find a suitable SNAP client to test this, but I want to avoid any surprises if possible.)
So far you just swipe through the mag reader. There is not a payment option (yet). The system seems to intuitively know it’s an EBT card. We have been a test site from the beginning. I would be glad to answer any questions if I can.
Hi, we’re a bakery that accepts EBT. EBT cards do not have the tap function you have to have some sort of magstrip reader.
We got a magstripe reader with the Register. Just want to know whether there should be a separate payment type for EBT cards on the checkout screen.

Thank you for confirming this. If I have any other questions, I now know who to ask!
