Any update on being able to partially pay for an open ticket ?

We use Square at our Baseball Club and it is fantastic. The only problem we have is that our members want to be able to make partial payments off their tickets. I know this a feature that has been asked for many times ... It there any update on this ? .... Does anyone have an easy workaround ?

Unfortunately at the moment you can't make a partial payment on an open ticket, and we have no plans to make this a feature in the future. You can split an open ticket into multiple payments, however if you take more than ~5 minutes to complete the whole transaction it will time out and void the payments.

It sounds like you may be using open tickets as an ongoing tab system - we actually recommend against using this feature in this manner.

The reason for this is that open tickets are designed to be used to add items to a a ticket over the course of single dining session at a restaurant, for example. If you have too many open tickets open over an extended period of time, these tickets can eventually build up enough to use all the system memory our app has access to, which can then cause the app to crash and possibly lose ticket info. This doesn't occur if the feature is used as intended, but we have seen it occur in the past when used to track ongoing tabs over a number of days/weeks.

If you are using open tickets in this way, you do run the risk of the above occurring. We recommend tracking member tabs outside of Square then running payments through square as needed.
