After Point of Sale software update, barcode scanner not working intermittently

We've been using Square Register for the past week now. I have it set up with a Brecknell scale, cash drawer, receipt printer, and a Zebra/Symbol DS6707 barcode scanner. The first few days, everything was working well and as expected. On Thursday morning, a software update was installed and then I started experiencing odd behavior with the barcode scanner. It would randomly stop scanning items. I would have no option but to manually search for and add the item from the item library using the register touch screen. After adding one item that way, the scanner starts working again with barcodes. Then a few customers later, it will happen again. This is extremely frustrating for checkout. We get about 180-200 customers per day and this is happening every few customers. 

 

Any ideas why this is happening? Could it be a bug in the latest software update?

 

Customer Success has recommended that I revert back to the previous POS experience. When I try that, the system is unable to recognize the labels printed from my CAS scales, making this not a viable solution.
