Up until a couple of weeks ago we were using Square Register to run standard POS.
We also have two iPads floating around the shop as general purpose devices: we could open up the POS app if Register crapped itself, run KDS apps on both, or play around with the Restaurants app on either.
Unfortunately I couldn't find a way to transition between POS and Restaurants on Square Register on the fly--not without resetting the device completely. And I'm talking a proper factory reset + logging in with a device code.
The really nice thing though is you can continue playing around with Restaurants via the Dashboard before fully transitioning. I spent a lot of time moving blocks around and tidying up my modifiers.
The final push I needed was Restaurant's ability to reinforce conversational workflows and modifier accuracy--of which there are plenty in a takeaway cafe setting! 🙂
We've already seen a marked improvement in how our junior staff take orders!
