One of my staff has added a stock inventory item twice where one of them is incorrect. we have one sales transactions against the wrong items. I see several ways to fix this but i cannot find any of them in the UI.
1. Reallocate the sales transactions to the correct item then remove the incorrect item
2. merge the two inventory stock items retaining the details of the correct item
please help me to fix this

Are you using Square for Retail (green app) or the general Point of Sale (black/white app)?
If it's Point of Sale, head to the Manage Inventory by Item section of this article and follow the steps to recount inventory.
Then you can delete the erroneous item from your item library.
(Visit Items > Item Library in your online Square Dashboard).
