how do i ring up a gift certificate when the amount of the certificate is less than the total sale?

I am having a problem with gift certificates.  I know how to ring a gift certificate up on the square, but I do not know how to redeem the certificate when sale is larger than the gift certificate, such as, the sale is $70 and the gift certificate is for $50.  How do I get the customer to pay the balance with the total tax?  Looking for help.

If there are insufficient funds on the gift card, you can use Split Tender to complete the sale.

Note: After a sale, any remaining gift card balance will display on the receipt screen and on your customer’s receipt.
