category sales trends

This was asked but never answered. There was a blanket response about sales. But like the op I need the specific category sales comparison. The sales trend report only compares total sales. How do you do a comparison of category and or item sales (to the prior year, month, and or day)? It is helpful to know if an item or category is trending better or worse compared to set time periods. As of now you have to run multiple reports to manually compare the information. @Everyone

Hey @Texomafunhouse.  I must have missed whatever previous post you are referring to.  If I had seen it I would have replied as follows.

Yes, you are correct.  There is currently no comparison report/feature for categories, or items, or modifiers — or, for that fact, anything other than gross/net sales.  Currently, if you need that functionality, the only workaround is to download the category report as a CSV for each desired period and import them to a spreadsheet to do the comparison.  If you’d like to, you can head over to the Ideate Board and submit a feature request to the Square Reporting Team requesting this feature.  Personally, I don’t think that either the Sales Summary or the Sales Trends report is the place for this as both of those are meant to be higher-level types of reporting.  But I can see the definite value is asking for a comparison period to the category, item and modifier sales reports.

Be careful when you submit this feature request.  Square has a firm policy of allowing only one feature request per post.  This means that if you want to ask for it in other reports besides Category Sales, you’ll need to make three posts — not one that covers all three.  That might not make sense to you, but it is what it is.

Otherwise, once you have submitted your feature request(s) come back here and reply with links to them.  I, for one, will be very happy to like/upvote them along with my comments. The more support you can drum up the better.

Finally, just something to make you aware of.  @everyone is not doing what you are assuming it does.  It seems there is a seller you has that community name, so all you are doing is tagging that individual seller.  Either they will be confused or they are no longer active or won’t see it.  Currently in the Community there is NO tagging method to tag groups of sellers, or moderators, etc.  Tags are individual only.  Trust me when I said that as a Square Champion I’m part of a group that has requested this.  But the software that Square is using to power the Seller Community currently does not support this feature.  So, for now, group tagging is just not possible.
