Thoughts on updates to Square for Retail checkout?

Does anyone else dislike the way the Checkout screen changed? We use the Free retail square app and we really don't like the way it looks and operates now. I spoke with Square and asked if we could go back to the way it was and was told no. Anyone else unhappy? Or are we the only ones??

While not 100%, I've found most changes have functionality improvements baked in or are leading to them over time. Change is always a setting for potential confusion and an opportunity to look at things differently. Hoping the best as you get used to the new screen and look for ways to use the Square tools available to grow your business.

Maybe it is because we use an iPad for checkout but the checkout area is squished over to the right and it is just not use friendly at all. And if we have to remove the clients name from the checkout it is a three step process. I just don’t feel like this is user friendly for a Salon/spa type of business at all!

Do you have a picture of what your Screen Looks Like on the Ipad?

I was using the Square for Retail Free version and like the way it looked and worked, but as you mention I am a retail store not a Spa.  I am just trying to understand as to maybe point you in a better direction.   My clerk hated the new updated Screen of Square for Retail when I was testing it on our backup Ipad.  I told her she might want to try it because that is what the main Ipad will look like in a few months.  Now she likes it, she just hates change when something is / was working fine.

Here is what my screen for Square for Retail looks like and I do not think is is Squished for my application.IMG_20230301_103805.jpg

 

I do think the Colored tiles could be smaller so more could fit or so the Receipt are could be bigger, but it is easy to read.

 

If you like this layout over what your currently using you may want to try the Square for Retail Free version.

Maybe I should have addressed my thread specifically to salons and spas. Maybe for a regular retail business it is better. For us it just is not working well.

We are having the same problem, and we are a gift shop with hundreds of items.  We liked the regular Square checkout screen where the item squares took up most of the iPad screen. Now the cashiers have to do a lot of scrolling and changing to more pages to ring up one customer's items. Is there any way to reduce the size of the running total on the right side of the screen?

This thread is nearly a year old. Did your device just now update, or are you referring to a different update than what is discussed on this thread? Can you post a screenshot of what you see from your end, so we can confirm? Can you also please let us know the software version you are using?
