Hi @James26,

Great question, and you’re definitely not alone in thinking about this!

While Square Register doesn’t currently prompt customers to enter their email directly for marketing during checkout, there are still some effective ways to collect emails in your store:

1. In-Store Signage

You can create and print free in-store signage to promote your marketing program. There’s even an option to export your program’s QR code so you can design your own signs.

2. Copy and Share Your Sign-Up Link

You can copy your email sign-up link and use it as a call-to-action button on your website, add it to your social media profiles, or include it directly in the custom text of your digital receipts.

To explore these options, go to your Square Dashboard: Customers > Marketing > Settings and look for Collect Email Addresses.

I hope one of these helps you collect emails more efficiently for now!

Hi @James26 we have also struggled on and off to find easy ways to use the Square system to sign up customers to the marketing newsletters either at the register or online. We have tried lots of ways including the methods outlined below by @Laurie_ Its such an important thing to get right and can be a huge boost to a business and to Square.

One way we tried was to customize the fields visible to both the cashier and the CFD side and then use the 'add customer' which you can make visible on the CFD for the customer to add their details.

The reason we wanted to customize what fields were visible to the customer was to reduce the fields to show only the required fields to eliminate the need for the customer to scroll down on the CFD which can be a barrier, while speeding up the signup process; in our case, name, email and mobile so we can then sign them up to the newsletter and the loyalty club.

However what we found was, when we customized the fields visible on the cashier screen, however these were not reflected on the CFD, so we see the required three fields, but the customers still sees all the fields Birthday, address etc. etc., requiring the customer to scroll down to it the enter button. It would be ideal if the the selected fields are the only ones displayed on on the CFD.

It would be also nice to have the option to have a screen prompt on the cashier side to ask if the customer would like to signup as we find that the sometimes there is reluctance by the team member or they just forgot to ask so a prompt would be good on the cashiers display. So ideally a prompt before the check out is completed, they are asked if they would like to signup to the Newsletter/loyalty, the customer says yes the team presses yes and the required fields are then shown to the customer to complete. they enter and the checkout process continues and they are signed up.

Either way I would love to see and think the signup process either online and/or at the register could be improved. Many of the elements of the Square system are there and work really well but I think there is a lot more involved especially with the process of engaging with the customer and making it as easy as possible to encourage your team to use and the customer part with their data. If there are too many steps, too many barriers it puts the team off from using and the customer off from signing up. It needs to be super slick like the rest of the Square package is.
