After a session of archiving old items and rejigging a few categories, it appears I no longer have the ability to edit which categories are assigned to profiles. They’re all locked in; if I enter the profile and try and adjust the categories they are assigned to, it “saves” but ultimately doesn’t adjust the categories assigned to the profile. This is terrible timing as I’ve just shuffled items around to new categories and need to assign then urgently - is anyone else experiencing this bug?!
I’ve tried logging in to square up via phone as I thought it might be a caching issue on my laptop, but the issue repeats itself.
This looks like a Square backend sync issue rather than a browser or device problem.
Printer profiles don’t always update correctly after items or categories are archived or reorganized. The UI shows the changes as “saved,” but the category-to-printer mapping doesn’t actually persist in the backend. That’s why you’re seeing the same behavior on both desktop and phone.
A couple of things that usually help:
Go to Items → Categories and make sure the categories you’re assigning are active (not archived or recently renamed).
Instead of editing the existing printer profile, duplicate the printer profile, assign the categories to the new profile, and temporarily disable the old one. This workaround is more reliable than direct edits.
Log out of the Square Dashboard, wait 10–15 minutes, then log back in to allow the changes to sync.
If it still doesn’t stick, this typically requires Square Support to refresh the printer profile mappings on the backend. Let them know the category assignments save visually, but don’t persist.
Thanks so much Caroline, I’m relieved to hear it’s a known issue! I’ll try those things
