Pre-modifiers

Hi everyone! I have a food truck and am trying to set up pre modifiers so that I don't have to type everything in when there is a change to the order. For example - BBQ Platter comes with pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, and Mac n cheese. Some people don't want the Mac and want to replace it with beans. How can I set it up to have a NO button and an ADD button?

Thanks!

Cindy

Hi @OTWPRVA.  There are a couple of answers to your question.  But first, Square calls what you are looking for “conversational modifiers.”

Secondly, in Square for Restaurants you enable these by changing the “Use Conversational Modifiers on POS” setting which is located at the bottom of the modifier definition screen.  Turning this on will cause modifier operators (“Add, Extra, No, etc.) to be displayed with the modifier on the POS.

One other thing.  Let’s say that you have an item that usually comes with baked beans, so you set that as the default modifier.  If the customer wants to substitute mac and cheese for the standard baked beans, all you have to do is change the side.  Square automatically adds “No” to the kitchen check as well as displays the substitution modifier.

I hope that helps.

I'm using the Square Terminal and don't see the option for "Use Conversational Modifiers on POS". Is it not available on there? I have the items added as modifiers and it doesn't show Add, No, Extra as options.

Thank you,

Cindy

@OTWPRVA Ah.  As far as I know, conversational modifiers are not yet available on the Terminal/Mobile Restaurants POS experience.  Nor are they available in our online stores.  They are only available on the full Restaurants POS.  Since @RobynR chimed in here earlier, I’m going to ask them to verify my assertion with the team, just in case I missed a memo somewhere.

If @RobynR verifies that, indeed, conversational modifiers are not available on the Restaurants Mobile experience, you can head over to the Ideate Board and submit a feature request to the Restaurants team.  This should get the ball rolling on evaluating it and giving you a decision about whether or not it will be added in a future product roadmap.  I’ll ask that if you do submit a feature request, please come back here and post a link to it.  I’d love to upvote/like it in support because I think it is a really good idea (if it’s not already there and I missed it, that is!)
