Options and Variations Organization Help

When I first set up my square account I was obviously confused as to what an option and variation was. As I was going through my items I wanted to clean them up a bit. It appears I added options that are the same as the variations. It doesn't appear I can delete the option without automatically deleting the variations. For example I entered each of my candles as a variation with the saying on the candle. For some reason I also have this as an option as "candle sayings" and the same names listed. Is there a way I can make this cleaner. I watched the videos over and over and it doesn't answer my question. I would be so grateful if someone could walk me through how to clean up my option list but keep my variations without losing important data. Thank you!

Hey @bbutler222!

Thanks for posting in the Seller Community.

First, I just want to make sure you saw this Support Center article, as it may be helpful.

Ultimately, it sounds like you're clear on the difference between options and variations. If not, please take a look at my answer in this thread. It goes over the definitions.

If you choose to delete the Option for an item, it will also delete the variation. This will however, not delete the entire item. Please give our Support Team a call if you'd like support on how to organize your item library moving forward, or feel free to post specific questions in here.

Thank you Isabelle. I am just now getting to this answer. Its been a crazy few months. I just posted another question about this. I'll see if I can find it and delete it. So I'll ask it here. For instance if I have 20 candles that all have different sayings, would I add an option list with those sayings so they are inventoried correctly as they sell and also so they can show up on line as their individual sayings so people can see if they are in stock etc. I can't believe I'm still looking at this. If you could help me with the question on the candle scenario that would be so helpful. Thank you!
