Hi there @specialspice.. Well, the reason it doesn't work is pretty simple. Currently, Square inventory does NOT work at the modifier level. Square inventory only works at the item/variation level. So, the answer is that you can not make it work, at least not with modifiers. Now...
It is very likely that you could use Combos, instead. This allows you to create a combo where customers can pick different items and price them accordingly. Here is a link to combos. You'd need to review this, especially the video, to see if it might work for you. One caution. In order to make this work with inventory, each spice would have to be its own item -- one item per spice/blend.
