Is it possible to create a Set Menu using Square for Restaurants?

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Create a set Menu for restaurant.

I need help.

So I have items as follow

WHITE RICE or YELLOW RICE

BEEF RIB that can be FRIED or STEAMED or GRILLED.

7 variants of CHILLI DIP

EGG that can be FRIED or BOILED

and GARLIC CRACKERS.

Each of these items are sold individually.
but also available as a set menu.

Example:

GRILLED BEEF RIBS ON RICE $28
Which by default:
Have the following in it..

WHITE RICE which also can be upgraded to YELLOW RICE for extra $2,

Has 1 BEEF RIB that is grilled

1 CHILLI DIP sauce which can be substitute to another chilli dip for the same price.

1 FRIED EGG which can be opted out with price reduction of -$1.
Or change to BOILED EGG without price change.

And GARLIC CRACKERS which also can be opted out with price REDUCTION  of -$1

I need to be able to know, how many qty of this menu (Grilled Beef Ribs on Rice) has been ordered as a set.

also have to able to know how many of these individual items has been sold or used daily or on period of time.

Also, since this menu item set use beef ribs on its set, if i run out of beef ribs (manually set qty count down, or manually marked it as soldout), all menu that use beef ribs, will not be able to be ordered.

Or when I soldout the YELLOW RICE, when customer order this menu item set or any menu that have option to change WHITE RICE to YELLOW RICE, they can not change the white rice to yellow rice.

So with this scenario I am explaining, how do I set this (these) items on the square backend?

Please advice and help

Solution

Hi @BAPONTAR😊

Thanks for reaching out! It sounds like Square for Restaurants may not cover all the functionality you’re looking for, specifically regarding Set Menu Management, but we can explore some solutions to help you manage your menu effectively.

Key Considerations

  • Pricing Adjustments: Square does not currently support reducing prices through variations or modifiers. While you can technically add a discount (e.g., "Remove Rice -$2"), this method does not track stock effectively. You can use modifiers to allow customers to swap, add, or remove items, but note that stock levels cannot be tracked through modifiers.
  • Individual Item Setup: To track the stock of each item and manage inventory across all menus, consider setting up each item individually. This approach provides greater control and allows you to mark items as out of stock when necessary.

Individual Item Pricing

  • Item - Beef Rib: $23
    • Modifier Set: "Meat Cooking Style"
    • Modifiers: Fried, Steamed, Grilled

  • Item - White Rice: $2

  • Item - Yellow Rice: $4

  • Item - Chilli Dip: $1
    • Modifier Set: "Chilli Dip Flavours"
    • Modifiers: Each flavor

  • Item - Egg: $1
    • Modifier Set: "Egg Cooking Style"
    • Modifiers: Fried, Boiled

  • Item - Garlic Crackers: $1

By combining these individual item prices, you can reach your desired set menu price. For example:

  • Beef Rib, White Rice, Chilli Dip, Egg, and Garlic Crackers total $28.
  • Excluding the Egg brings the total to $27.
  • Excluding the Garlic Crackers brings it to $26.
  • Substituting Yellow Rice instead of White Rice brings the total to $30. Similar adjustments apply for other combinations.

Tracking and Inventory Management

  • Set Menu Tracking: Square doesn't directly track set menu orders. A workaround is to create a $0 priced item called "Set Menu - Beef Ribs" and have your staff add this to each order before adding individual items.
  • Stock Management: If you run out of key items like Beef Ribs or Yellow Rice, you can manually mark these items as "Sold Out" in your inventory. Setting these items up individually will prevent them from being ordered in any menu.

Menu Organisation

  • Display Categories: Create multiple menus or display categories such as "Dinner Menu" or "Set Menu" to organise your offerings. This setup can make it easier for your staff to navigate your menu options.

Example Menu Setup

Display Category - "Set Menu"

  • Item: Beef Rib Set Menu - $0 (for tracking purposes only)
  • Item: Beef Rib - $23
  • Item: White Rice - $2
  • Item: Yellow Rice - $4
  • Item: Chilli Dip - $1
  • Item: Garlic Crackers - $1

Display Category - "Dinner"

  • Add any items you like to this menu, including the items above if they can be ordered with different meals.

If this setup doesn’t work for you, you might want to consider using the Restoke integration available in the Square App Marketplace to enhance your stock tracking and menu management capabilities.

I hope this helps! If you have further questions, feel free to reach out.
