Individual items that make up a bundle - will it scan over to bundle on POS?

Hi there,

I'm new to square from another POS.  So my example is we order in and sell flower flats - they have 12 packs to make a flat price.  We also sell the individual packs.

In my old POS if I scanned 12 or more packs, system would automatically update to show (1) flower flat and the remaining odd number of packs.

I'm trying this as a bundle feature, but I don't have inventory added yet.  Will it work like I intend it to?  My cashiers are good but sometimes our customers don't have the plants in order of size/packs and it's easy to overcharge at 4 pack pricing vs doing our "bundle" per flat pricing.  I'd like to see them scan the packs individually and square figure out how many to make flat price.

Welcome to Square.

With A Bundle as you mention, you would have a Barcode on the Flat, Scan that and it deducts 12 from inventory if that is the Quantity in a Flat.   Here is more about Bundles : 8057-create-managing-bundles-with-square-for-retail 

Now if you normally Scan each Plant and give a Discount for buying a Flat, you may want to look into Discounts with Square.  You can actually Scan say 24 with Discounts and it would show that 24 plants were sold at a price of $2.00 with a $.20 cent discount.

The only issue is when Setting up the discount, you can not say a flat is $X.XX  when 12 are sold of the same item for example.  You would need to do math.  $12 plants at $2.00 with a .20 cent discount would be .20 per plant discount which works out.  But like I do buy 3 $8.99 items for $20.  Which would normally be $26.97 so a savings of $6.97 off divided by 3 does not come out to exactly $20 and ends up being off, so I had to use % off at 25.84% to get the $20 for 3.  Here is More About Discounts : 3955-create-and-manage-discounts 

Bundles are setup for something like a sealed Gift Basket where each item is known.  The Gift basket gets the Barcode, then all items in the Gift Basket are reduced in inventory by the Number placed in the Gift Basket.

The other thing you could look into is Sell by units in Square. This is if you buy your Flats by a bin but sell in multiple parts.  I buy Stick Candles by the case and Sell them by the  case, Dozen and individually.  By using this method it keeps track of my stock.  The only thing to think about is if you buy Plants by the Bin, of say 144 and you order 2 bins.... you receive 288 flowers not 2 bins.
