How to change special order "note" color in Kitchen Display / Square for Restaurants

We are finding it difficult / impossible to make KDS do what it's advertised to do. Based on your marketing we should be able to change color of order notes... such as the "no cheese" note in the picture being displayed as red. As of right now, everything on our screen is black and grey except orders which are taking too long. Please help us on how to do this, I have googled, searched these boards etc. without any luck. Thank you in advance. PS. we are using iPads.

Hi @eatnrun.  So I created a test order to make the screen shot below as a reference.  I think there is some confusion.  If you refer to my screen shot, the area circled in red (“This is a note”) is text that was keyed into the notes field of a transaction entered in my POS.  It is always gray italics and can not be changed.  The items in red above it are selections made in modifier sets, and these are always red.  If you want things like “no cheese” to be in red, for now you will have to put them into a modifier set in order for your servers to select those.  Then they will show up red.  Currently, unless I missed the memo, there is no way to change the color for text that is keyed directly into the notes field.

If you want to have this feature added to KDS, head over to the Ideate Board and submit a feature request to the Square KDS team.  This will start the evaluation process for possible inclusion on their product roadmap.  If you do that, don’t forget that Square is deprecating KDS for the iPad platform in June of 2024.  After that, KDS will only be available on Android devices.  They have indicated that, other than bug fixes, they will not be making any more changes to the iPad app since it will go away in a few months.  Here’s a link to that announcement that was released in July 2023.

Best,
