FLASH ORDER | Kiosk Review

Flash Order is a iOS kiosk app that integrates with with Square for the item library and payments. 

 

I wanted to try out the kiosk as reached out to their support team and they offer all the things that I need, my main priorities being:

App based kiosk
Square payments 
Cloud based (so kiosk can be on a different network)

Customer notifications

 

Unfortunately this is where the review stops, as I’ve never been able to deploy a kiosk.

Initially the support team answered all my sales based questions and advised about changes for the next build (using the . Decimal instead of , ). But in setting up the SMS reporting they’ve never got back to me as this apparently needed further configuration their side. 

From the app you’d never know it wasn’t set up as it’s all there with my billing and account info - but nothing gets sent. 

It seemed to work fine on my test iPad, I could put though test transactions and they’d show within Squares KDS and also Flash’s own KDS (iOS only and the one I’d need to use for the sms notifications). When it came to getting it active on an iPad 9th gen in the new Square Stand everything gave up. 

I got a list of error messages trying to get the app to communicate with the stand (never did get it working) and have given up as this isn’t what I want to spend my time doing. 

I’m going to continue to encourage people to use the online self serve that works really well and I’m growing to hate on Android less with a 22” KDS kitchen side. 

 

For me, Flash Order is one to miss and I’m never going to get the time back I’ve spent trying to get it all set up.

That's disappointing - I'll share this thread with our partnerships team so that they have insight into the seller experience - I'll let you know if they come back with anything. There may be something we can do. 

 

I'm glad self-serve is still a good alternative in the meantime.

Hey @Breffni - within a few hours of you getting in touch I’ve had a follow up email 👍

I’ve forwarded this on for you (via Isabelle) just for info. 

I just don’t think they’re a good match for the UK market right now - from what they’ve said some of this sounds like it’s down to Squares API’s etc. But in any event, they’re not able to offer what they’ve advertised unfortunately.
