Changing an exiting item to a variation

Is there a way to change several single items to variations of one group?  Example color variations of the same item.

@bonsaisteve There is not currently a way to combine items into 1 item with variations. You can take an item that is set up and "Duplicate" the item in the top right when you open the item in your online dashboard.  That would allow you to make item creation much faster, but there really isn't a clean way to do it in the dashboard or the app.  

Now you could edit your item catalog in a spreadsheet in excel.  I'll link the instructions, but in essence, you download the item catalog, make your bulk edits, and re-upload the catalog and that would do it.

You are correct, @Donnie-M, I do not believe there is a way to change an item in this way, unfortunately. This is a great workaround though!

 Do you have some examples of what your trying to do?

You could create an Option set, then apply the option set to the 'Group' which creates variations for the Group.

So for example Color Option set has Red, Blue, Green etc in it.

You get a New shirt or Hoodie and it comes in the same Colors you could add Item Hoodie and then apply Color option which would create variations of Hoodie Red, Hoodie Blue, and Hoodie Green. Here is more about Option Sets in Square:

Now if your trying to move Hoodie red, green and Blue from Item Hoodie to Item( Group  ) Pullovers the best you can do is apply the Option set and not move the current Varaitions of Hoodies to the New Item Pullovers.

I was able to do this with CSV files but I ended up Doubleing my SKUs and My GTINs for those items..... still cleaning up this mess.... I do not recommend trying this method with a Bunch of data or knowing about csv files.

What I'm trying to do is use the same SKU number and just move sever single skus to a group, so they would be variations of the same size item.  It looks like I have to delete each one and then reissue the sku in the new variation group.  Too bad because I will loose my inventory history.  

One of the many things I wish Square could change.
