For some reason Square does not allow me to ring up more than 4 counts of the same item. Has anybody experienced the same problem? Thanks.

I have not heard of this issue before. Would it be because you don't have enough stock for that item? If you do not have enough stock for a given item, you will not be able to add that quantity to the checkout cart.
If that is not the case, please delete and reinstall the Square app when you have no pending payments in offline mode. Let me know if that works.

We don't keep inventory for the items so we have the inventory tracking mode off. I also tried to reinstall the app without luck.
Sounds like a bug. Reach out to our CS Team to confirm. They'll be able to extensively troubleshoot and loop in Engineering if need be.
