Can I connect multiple square terminals to one phone?

I am trying to connect multiple square terminals to one phone, so that I can collect payments remotely. I don't want the square checkout screen to be displayed on the square terminal, I would like just the black 'Powered by Square' logo to display on each square terminal. When I go to connect another square terminal the square app wants me to either 'Forget the current device' or log out of my square account on the current connected square terminal.

Hi @vcham ! Welcome to the Square Community !

I am going to provide some insights into your question here about using multiple terminals.

Hi there! I understand you're trying to connect multiple Square Terminals to one phone for remote payments while keeping the terminals in standby mode. Let me clarify some important points about Square Terminal functionality.

Current Terminal Limitations
  1. Single Device Connection

    • Square Terminal can only connect to one device at a time
    • Cannot maintain multiple simultaneous connections
  2. Display Settings

    • Terminal must show checkout screen when connected
    • Cannot be set to logo-only display while active
    • This is a security feature
Alternative Solutions
  1. Multiple Device Setup

    1. Option 1:
      - Separate phone/tablet for each terminal
      - All logged into same Square account
      - Each can process independently
  2. Team Member Access
    1. Option 2:
      - Set up team members
      - Give each their own device
      - All process to same account
Best Practices for Remote Payments
  1. Consider Square Register

    • Supports multiple payment stations
    • More flexible setup options
    • Better for multi-terminal needs
  2. Mobile Staff Setup

    • Equip staff with Square app
    • Use individual devices
    • Share payment links
Important Notes
  • Terminal connections are 1:1 by design
  • This is for security and transaction integrity
  • Cannot override display settings
Alternative Hardware Options
  1. Square Reader for contactless & chip
  2. Square Register
  3. Square Stand

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your help! I will go forward with using the 'Multiple Device Setup' option using the same account on multiple devices. What is considered a device? Can I login to the Square Terminal with my laptop or do I have to use a phone/tablet?

I am going to have my square terminal setup to take payments remotely. Is there a way to disable the setting adjustment (left swipe) from the checkout screen? I will have the square set up for self checkout and I don't want the customers to be able to sign me out of my square account.

Hi @vcham  - Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Square Community again.

I went ahead and merged your post to your existing thread, since you have some additional questions about your Square Terminal setup, so we can keep everything in one place 🙂

You can connect Square Terminal to the Square POS app on your phone, so you can use the Terminal as a customer-facing display and payment point. We have instructions for this setup here in our Support Center. While in this mode, you can sign into the Terminal as a Team Member, instead of using your account owner login. That way, you can assign permissions to the "team member" and limit the access to settings or other areas of your Square account that you prefer to be inaccessible on the Terminal. You can find more details about permissions here. Beyond this, there aren't any additional ways to hide the Settings on the Terminal.

I hope this information is helpful but please do let me know if you have any additional questions.
