Can I change a current item into a variation of another existing item?

I have a large number of inventory items that should be variations not their own item. I don't want to delete them and lose all of the historical information but I am trying to correct my inventory so each variation isn't showing up as its own item. 

I already downloaded and reloaded the inventory to try to correct this but it just made the items have their own variation instead of becoming a variation of the one item.

For example: 

I have Company A Greeting Cards they have 40 different variations of their Greeting Cards. Currently these greeting cards are all their own items with their own sku's. I want to reorganize my inventory so these 40 different variations are under Company A Greeting Cards. How can I do this?

Hey @JackieC - I'm afraid you need to manually recreate those individual items as variations under the existing item. Although a time saver, there isn't a button that converts them into variations unfortunately. Since you have a lot of items, it might be best to use a spreadsheet. 

Doing this will not alter historical data such as item sales and other reports, but you will have to re-enter stock amounts for those variations.
