Bug Report: Inventory Transfer Update Breaks Stock Tracking Activation System

Summary:
The recent update to the stock transfer interface introduces a critical error: it fails to automatically activate stock tracking or reactivate items when inventory is transferred to a location where the item was previously made inactive. Previously, this process included a pop-up notification confirming that stock tracking and item activation would occur, ensuring smooth operations. This issue has disrupted workflows and caused unnecessary confusion for staff.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Identify an item that has been made inactive at a location.
  2. Use the updated stock transfer interface to transfer inventory for that item to the inactive location.
  3. Attempt to scan or interact with the item at the receiving location.

Expected Behavior:
When inventory is transferred to a location where an item is inactive:

  • The system should automatically reactivate the item for the location.
  • Stock tracking should also be enabled for the item at the receiving location.
  • A confirmation notification or pop-up should be displayed, as was the case in the previous interface, indicating that these actions have occurred.

Actual Behavior:

  • The item remains inactive at the receiving location after the transfer.
  • Stock tracking is not enabled, preventing operations such as scanning or labeling.
  • Staff attempting to create labels for transferred inventory identified this issue.

Impact:

  • Operational delays occur when staff are unable to scan or label items at the receiving location.
  • Increased risk of confusion and panic among team members who expect transferred inventory to be ready for use.
  • Manual intervention is required to identify and address affected items, adding significant administrative overhead.

Reproducibility:
This issue consistently occurs when inventory is transferred to a location where an item was previously made inactive.

Workaround:
A temporary workaround involves manually filtering affected items using an API catalog export to identify inactive items. This requires reactivating the items and enabling stock tracking manually, which is not a sustainable or efficient solution.

Attachments:

  • Images of an example item showing the issue (attached).
  • Exported data showing items with missing stock tracking activation after transfer that have been corrected manually.

Urgency:
This bug requires attention as it disrupts essential inventory management workflows and creates unnecessary complications for staff. A resolution is needed to restore the functionality provided by the previous system. Inventory is successfully tracked, however it is unsaleable without intervention
