As it stands now, you can mark an order as "ready" or "delivered". Will there be a way to mark the order as "on the way" so that when customers get text alerts about the order status, they can know it's on the way?

Great question! I don't have any information of features being added to the in-house delivery option. I would recommend posting this over on our Feature Request Board.
This particular area of the Community is great for dropping feature requests of what you'd like to see or what would help your business while using Square. While I cannot guarantee it would be implemented, it's a great place for sellers to add voices to posted feature requests and our Product Team can see what is popular from our sellers.
