Ohio's Sales Tax holiday starts this Saturday for two weeks (I know other states have it too at other times). Anything new this year to make it easier like a disabled date function? Last year I could only disable it completely off for all items, but then couldn't turn it back on again and had to completely redo a new sales tax when the holiday was over. I know this "no tax date period" was a function request, any news? Or anyone have a better way to do it? The exemption in my case applies to all items. Thank you!
Hi there, @TOV,
We understand how important it is to have a smooth, efficient way to handle temporary tax exemptions like this, especially when they apply to all items. You’re right, this has been a feature request we've heard from sellers, and we know how helpful a date-based tax toggle would be.
At this time, Square doesn’t yet offer a built-in “no-tax date range” function. The current setup still requires manual changes to your tax settings. That said, here are a couple of updated tips to help minimize disruption this year:
Create a Separate Tax Rule in Advance: Instead of editing your main sales tax, you can temporarily disable it and create a new tax rule (0% or no tax) labeled something like “Sales Tax Holiday – Ohio.” Then, apply it to all applicable items.
Schedule a Reminder to Switch Back: On the last day of the holiday, simply disable the temporary tax rule and re-enable your original one—without having to rebuild it from scratch.
We know this isn’t quite the seamless toggle you were hoping for, and we’ve passed this feedback along to our product team again. These kinds of insights directly influence how we prioritize future updates.
