transferring from Square space domain to square

I have been using Square Point of Sale and am now thinking about opening the free version of square Up website.

Currently, I have a website and domain on Squarespace. Is it possible to transfer my domain to the free version of Square UP website, and how would I do that?

Hey there @petraslay.. It is not possible to use a custom domain with the free tier web hosting.  In order to use a custom domain, you must upgrade to any one of the Square Online paid tiers.  You can then transfer the domain registrar from SquareSpace to Square.

To transfer your domain to Square:

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Online Websites(or Online store).
  2. Click Website Domains.
  3. Click Connect domain.
  4. Select Use a domain I own elsewhere, enter your domain, and click Verify.
  5. Click transfer your domain and follow the purchase steps.
  6. With your current host, disable WHOIS privacy, disable registrar lock, verify your contact email, and get your domain authorization (EPP) code.
  7. Enter the authorization code in Square to start the transfer.
  8. Follow email instructions from your current host and Square to finalize the transfer.

Transfers take about 7-10 days. Domains must be .com, .net, or .org. Domains from Register.com and Squarespace cannot be transferred.

So, do I understand this correctly, regardless of the plan I choose, I will not be able to transfer my domain from Squarespace (it was formerly from google)? Would I be able to forward my original domain to the subdomain in Square?

You totally misunderstood.  You can NOT use a custom domain with a FREE tier Square Online plan -- ONLY with one of the paid plans.  You must be subscribed to one of the Square Online paid plans in order to use a custom domain.  I'm not sure where you got that you can't transfer domains to Square -- especially since I outline the steps to do just that.  You just can't use that custom domain with Square Online's free tier, as I said in my original reply.  Also, if your customer domain does not end in .com, .org or .net, you can't transfer that to Square at all.

As for forwarding -- I would not recommend that.  While forwarding will work for your home page, forwarding will not work for other pages.

Thanks,

I was referring to this statement in your original answer.

"Domains from Register.com and Squarespace cannot be transferred."

@petraslay How interesting.  I copied that section from Square's help document and didn't actually notice it until now.  SO....... I guess you can not transfer your Squarespace domain.  My deepest apologies for the misinformation.
