"Recommended for you" does not recommend the right stuff

When I am logged in, the "Recommended for you" section does not seem correct for my account (it shows things I haven't bought, and not the things I have). And the "Popular items" section shows the exact same items, and those items are not the most popular items on our site (in terms of quantity nor dollars).

 

Some people see good recommendations, so it's odd that it doesn't work for me. They see the wrong popular items though.

 

Overall, it seems like something isn't right with the popular items and recommended for you items.
