Will Calendar Syncing no longer be free after Square Appointments Repricing?

The title of this thread has been edited by a Square Moderator from the original: "Calendar Syncing -- no longer free"

Is there any way to sync Square appointments to my ical or google calendar? Now that they have changed it to "plus" subscriptions only, I am really upset. I don't want to pay $35 per month for such a simple, yet important, feature. One that has been free for so long! (Solo practitioner, small business here)

Re: Calendar syncing change?

Hi @Goosey, thanks for flagging this and sorry for the delayed response.

As we build more advanced features for various business needs, some features may only be used by certain businesses. We introduced the new pricing plans because we believe in the value of our product and know that some features are used by certain businesses more than others. With these new plans, you’re given the option to choose which is right for your business.

Although no changes are final until 26/04/21, if you opt-in to a new plan before that date, the new plan applies immediately. This is why you would not have been able to access your Google Calendar.

I’m sorry for the inconvenience and confusion here, please feel free to contact our Support Team who can help you avail of a 30day free trial of the paid subscriptions - this way you'll have more time to evaluate the options.

That’s where I’m headed, too. I think Square is making a big mistake, and that they’ll lose most small businesses by charging an exorbitant fee for this service.
What is the point of having an appointment app without a calendar integration?

No, no, no -- I would be happy to pay for "advanced features" that I used as a larger business and which cost Square more resources. But I have one location and one staffperson (me). But the Google Calendar API is FREE, and so I don't feel I should be charged $30 for it.

And there was NO warning when I opted to change plans this morning that my Google Calendar would immediately unsync and I would lose all the appointments on my calendar. The "choose your plan" selection showed only number of locations and "advanced features" which were not defined and which I never dreamed would include something so basic as calendar sync with a free API. Imagine my panic when I realized today's appointment had vanished!

This is a safety issue for me. As I travel to clients' homes, I share my Google calendar so others know where I will be and where I last was if I don't check in. Now I don't have that functionality or that safety network.

Square, I love you, but this is a mistake. Please return calendar sync to the basic level.

I did some more research and decided to go with Amelia. I've purchased the lifetime version of the plugin for $300, and I'm still in the process of installing it and testing it, as I've been too busy working to get to it as fast as I'd like, but I'll post back to let everyone know how it's going. This also syncs with my Google calendar, and integrates WooCommerce and other payment programs. I'll still use Square for my payments, as I think the rates are reasonable and I like the way it works, but they've lost my business for the Appointments app. It just doesn't make sense for small businesses, and their rate isn't close to competitive with other appointment apps on the market.

This is a highly disappointing move by square. Taking away a free feature that was so central to gaining subscribers and asking them to subscribe to a highly unsustainable plan. I will be looking into Calendly and other affordable options. You messed up big time square
