Why are Clients able to cancel their Subscriptions?

The title of this thread has been edited by a Square Moderator from the original: I own a gym with membership contracts, canceling prior to their term should NOT be an option!"

I own a gym with membership contracts requiring 30 days' notice to cancel AFTER their contract term - which can be as long as 12 months. I have found that a member has been able to cancel their subscription somehow!?

I cannot have this happen! Why on earth are my members able to access administrative functions!?!?

How can I prevent this? I do not have the man-power to monitor this every day.

Hi again, @MelleBelle - Thank you for your patience here.

The Subscriptions Team confirmed that we do allow customers to cancel their subscriptions, by default. If you'd prefer, our engineers can update your configuration, manually, on their end, and turn off this functionality.

Please just let me know what you decide. I'll keep an eye out for your reply!

Hi there, @MelleBelle - Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Square Community. My name is Violet and I'm one of the Moderators here.

I'm not sure of the answer to this one myself, so I'm going to consult with the Square Subscriptions Product Team on this one to get the best answer for you.

I'll reach back out to you here once I gather more info.

Is it possible to define this as a configuration setting? Also, for subscriptions is it possible to require a contract or agreement to be signed prior to the subscription starting.

For example, during setting up a subscription can a minimum time duration be required prior to a customer being able to cancel their subscription? I own an auto detail company and our customers have been asking for subscriptions, however for our higher end subscription plans, it requires a full detail at the start of the time period followed by maintenance services monthly. The cost is split over the duration of the subscription.

This means that a customer could cancel the subscription in month two and receive a premium service at a fraction of the cost. It would also make it extremely easy if prior to accepting and/or starting the subscription, a contract could be integrated into the workflow so that the customer is aware of the terms of the subscription. The last thing I need is a customer service nightmare.

Hello, I saw your response to others in the community who share the same concern as i do (pasted below):

"Subscriptions Team confirmed that we do allow customers to cancel their subscriptions, by default. If you'd prefer, our engineers can update your configuration, manually, on their end, and turn off this functionality."

I would like the configuration to be manually updated so that the functionality of the customers being able to cancel their subscriptions to be turned off.

can you help me?

Thank you
