I just switched my custom domain to square. disappointed to have no luck with having the option for an "upload image" button for customers who want custom orders. I own a laser engraving company so 99% of my items are custom. thinking i wasted my time and money on square..what is the best workaround currently? and why doesnt square have this feature by now!?
Hi, @engravemainellc ! Welcome to the Square Community.
I can understand why you would be frustrated. I am going to outline some workarounds below that Sellers who do custom artwork typically use.
Order then upload via email or external form
Let customers purchase the custom item on your Square Online store as a standard item (e.g., “Custom Engraved Plaque”).
In the item description and checkout instructions, include something like: “After purchase, please email your image/file to [[email protected]] or upload via this link: [Google Drive/Dropbox/Form link].”
Then you follow up manually, match the file to order, and proceed.
Embed a third-party form on your site
Use a third-party form tool (for example, something like Form Builder by POWR) that supports a file/image upload field.
After the customer places the order, either redirect them to the upload form, or include the upload link in the confirmation email.
Then you manually link the uploaded file to the order in your workflow.
Separate checkout for custom job
Create a “custom quote / upload required” product where you send an invoice instead of a standard cart checkout.
Ask customers to pay a deposit and upload their image via email or form after payment.
This gives you more control and lets you manage the custom job more directly.
I'm not sure if Square has any plans on the roadmap to offer uploads any time soon, so hopefully these workarounds can be of use for you!
I hope this helps!
Hey there! 👋
Don’t give up on Square just yet — I totally get your frustration, especially when most of your products need that image upload feature.
While Square doesn’t have that built-in right now, a few people have had luck using third-party integrations like Jotform, Cognito Forms, or FormBuilder. You can embed those on your Square site so customers can upload images with their order details before checkout.
It’s definitely not a perfect fix, but it works pretty smoothly once set up.
I am just not very tech savy in understanding how to do this or finding videos how to. why doesnt square have this feature? it seems simple to add and would make for a larger crowd of small businesses using square online!
Totally understand. I could see if I could locate a YouTube video for you because I know you really need and want this feature (and we have enough on our plates as small business owners to deal with).
Did you ever find a video/tutorial showing how to do this?
